Champion deployed a six-man crew 950 miles from our Southeast region office in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Work began on April 2, 2019 and finished on September 19, 2019. With each set of tanks located on opposing sides of the airfield, sequencing incorporated multiple “mini” mobilizations and demobilizations in order to capitalize on the correct ambient weather conditions across spring, summer, and early fall.
Champion proposed and was approved to conduct exterior surface preparation with wet abrasive blasting as an effective and cost-saving measure. Champion quality control worked with our GC and the U.S.G. to obtain an approved variance for the use of Sherwin Williams Acrolon Ultra as the finish coat due to environmental conditions. Despite high winds, rain, and extreme temperatures, the Champion team’s technical expertise, pragmatic planning, and flexibility in execution enabled successful completion of the project. Additionally, SSPC conducted a QS-1 audit on Champion during the project IAW certification requirements, which the company successfully passed.
