Champion Specialty Services was selected by SFRTA to perform the full rehabilitation of the Cypress Creek Train Station in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Onsite work began in February 2025 and continued through November 2025. Extensive unforeseen conditions resulting in numerous change orders and design modifications delayed the expected completion date of the project. However, even with these challenges and delays, Champion successfully delivered the project under the original budget.
The project demanded a wide range of specialty services, including:
One of the defining challenges of this rehabilitation was that the station remained fully open to the public throughout construction. Every scope of work required adjustments from the original plans due to differing site conditions, and not a single task could be executed exactly as drawn. Champion’s team worked closely with the owner, the Engineer of Record, and the CEI to develop practical, safe, and cost-effective solutions in real time. Over the course of the project, several change orders were required, all of which Champion value‑engineered to minimize cost and schedule impacts. Despite the volume of changes, the project still finished below the original budget.
Project Manager Treyvon Price led the effort with strong support from Randy McLaughlin and Site Superintendent Gerard Appuzzi. The team’s performance stood out not only for technical execution but also for their professionalism, coordination, and commitment to safety in an active rail corridor. As the CEI noted in their closing remarks: “Your professionalism, coordination, and strong adherence to safety—especially while working within an active rail corridor—were essential to achieving a project completed with zero incidents… It has truly been a pleasure working with all of you. We look forward to the possibility of working together again on future projects.”
The successful completion of the Cypress Creek Station Rehabilitation highlights Champion’s ability to manage complex, evolving conditions while maintaining safety, budget discipline, and strong collaboration across all stakeholders.
