Champion Joins Restoration Team for the Iconic Golden Gate Bridge

Champion is proud to announce its selection as the coatings and structural restoration subcontractor for an upcoming phase of the Golden Gate Bridge rehabilitation program. Halmar International, the project’s General Contractor, has chosen Champion to perform critical coatings restoration work on one of the most iconic structures in the world.

This award marks a significant milestone for Champion and reflects the company’s expanding national presence and deep expertise in complex infrastructure restoration. It also highlights the strength of Champion’s longstanding partnership with Halmar, built over years of successful collaboration and shared commitment to quality.

Under this contract, Champion will be responsible for major coatings restoration on Spans 1 and 4 of the Golden Gate Bridge, as well as a complete replacement of the original lead-based coatings on the exterior of the South Tower superstructure. The South Tower alone rises 500 feet above the roadway and stands roughly 700 feet above the water, making access, logistics, and safety central to the project’s planning and execution.

Work is scheduled to begin in Fall 2026 and continue through 2030. This phase represents approximately half of the bridge, with the remaining portion to be bid separately at a later date.

Restoring the Golden Gate Bridge presents unique technical challenges due to its height, exposure, and environmental sensitivity. Champion’s selection for this work underscores the company’s proven ability to deliver high-risk, high‑visibility projects with precision, safety, and reliability.

“Being entrusted with the restoration of the Golden Gate Bridge is an honor for our entire organization,” said Jeff Jones, Vice President of Champion Painting West Coast. “This project reflects the confidence our partners have in Champion and the dedication of our teams across the country. We look forward to contributing to the preservation of this national landmark.”

This project strengthens Champion’s presence on the West Coast and reinforces the company’s position as a leader in large-scale infrastructure restoration. As preparations begin, Champion remains focused on delivering work that reflects the highest standards of craftsmanship, safety, and excellence.
